Starts in October.
Enjoyed Batman leading the team in the last regular Outsiders issue, so this should be a good go.
Fingers crossed... |

issue 13
"How do you replace a man who's irreplaceable? How do you replace his detective skills? His stealth? His fighting ability? The only conclusion is that no one person can replace Batman. But perhaps one person won't have to."
- Cassandra Cain, Batgirl
"The Network"
Frank Tieri - writer
Fernando Dagnino - penciller
Raul Fernandez - inker
This issue is in the aftermath of Batman's disappearance - and the disbanding of the Outsiders yet again.
Cassandra refuses to face the reality that without its leader, The Outsiders have gone their own way. She spends the issue tracing down characters, heroes and villains, who can serves as some aspect of Batman's abilities. She visits Man-Bat, who is chasing a guy named Johnny Stitches out of Gotham. She leaves him her card, to contact her. She also contacts Vigilante and mentions an offer she has for him.
Later, in the Batcave, she accesses files on various other characters in the DCU, people she sees as recruits for a new Outsiders. She shuts off the computer and leaves, but a moment later the computer is turned back on. It is Nightwing, and he is none too pleased with what he has witnessed.
Next issue promises Nightwing vs Batgirl...
In a way, this issue was a bit of a chaotic mess - but then it is kind of supposed to be. Batman is gone. The team is gone. Cassandra won't let it go, and it appears she plans to make up her own Outsiders. Actually, I see potential here. On the computer I see Wildcat, Black Canary, Riddler, Oracle, Question, among others. I think that DC plans to make this some kind of Mission Impossible team (tv series, not movies) where she calls in people who fit a particular mission best. This could work if done properly. Or it could wind up another Secret Defenders, a book with a similar idea, but went south fast.
I like to be optimistic... |

issue 26
Haven't read an issue in a long time, but when I saw the cover to THE OUTSIDERS 26 I couldn't resist. How was it? Well, I felt rather lost; Geo-Force is acting quite the prick here - is he under control of a bad guy? Is this a new, revamped, arrogant Geo-Force? No real hint to why he is behaving the way he is, so I just muddled through and saw Katana also acting rather unusual as well. Is this Dan Didio's new take on the characters? Enjoyed the scene with Metamorpho at the restaurant, but even that was a bit puzzling. Oh, and that cover that hooked me in the first place? I like the last page, which answers the question posed on that cover. I think it is a very intriguing idea and most fans will like this new development. I may have to buy the previous issue or two, then re-read this one so I can understand what is going on... |
